Year 5 Science week was spacetastic!

A busy week for year 5 entries have gone in for the 500 words so fingers crossed!

We have had a focus on handwriting and presentation this week, producing some very special finishing work on explanation text. The children have been practising comprehension skills, using words in context, retrieval questions, and inference from the text.

We have been learning the short multiplication method, extending from 3 digits by 1 digit to 4 digits by 1. Then we have estimated a product and used multiplication problems. The children ended the week with using this skill in real life problems.

During our class assembly we discussed the parable of the prodigal son, in relation to forgiveness. We discussed why the father instantly forgave his son, and why his brother might not have been happy.

We have been busy in science using drama to explain the movement of the moon in relation to the earth. We also designed a space rover for science week which the children were fascinated with the programmable Lego and the space app on the IPad.

We ended the week in our pyjamas in support of Comic relief, the children enjoyed an assembly and had fun wearing their red noses.

“This week Seth and I really enjoyed going to a literacy challenge in Upton-by-Chester, along with many other schools. We were both pushed to our limits but it all payed of when we wrote a piece of writing for the teachers” Aine

This week’s Year 5 stars: – Jemima, for improving her presentation.
