Year 2 children have a Dahl-ing time with Mr Twit…

This week in Year 2 the children have been busy writing a biography about Paul McCartney. They researched facts using the internet, made notes then drafted and edited their writing. Next week we are moving on to writing different types of poetry.

In Maths we have been revising fractions of amounts and equivalent fractions. We have also been learning how to round numbers to the nearest 10. We also completed some SATs style questions. The children need to practise their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.

In Music we have learning the Easter song ‘Spring Chicken’. The children have been thinking of actions to go with the words. We have revised the musical elements ‘duration’ and ‘dynamics’. In our recorder session we learnt a new note ‘D’.

We had lots of fun on World Book Day. The children enjoyed a storytelling activity in assembly led by Mr Twit. They drew pictures of their favourite book characters and write a description of them.  The children also enjoyed a visit to Storyhouse where they enjoyed craft activities and more storytelling.

Emily R “I loved seeing all the colourful costumes during the World Book Day assembly. I liked listening to Mr Twit reading a story to us.”

Harvey “I like World Book Day because I see my teachers dressed up looking funny. I was Iron man today!”

Emily A “I am Belle today. She is a beautiful, kind and caring princess who breaks the spell so The Beast turns back into a Prince. World Book Day is amazing!”

Bobby “We went to Storyhouse where we saw lots of books. I feel very lucky to have Storyhouse so close to our school”.

In RE we discussed Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. The children have all given up something for lent. They enjoyed mixing ingredients to make pancakes and learning about how Shrove Tuesday is celebrated in other countries.

Next Thursday, Rector Chesters is coming to visit Year 2 to answer some questions they have about the 1960s. Don’t forget Red Nose Day next Friday-children can come to school in their pyjamas.
