Y6 have a “flippin” great time at St John’s Church…

On Tuesday we were invited to St John’s church to have pancakes– Reverend Chesters and his wife kindly prepared some delicious pancakes for us
and Y5 to eat with various filling Yum. During our visit the rector talked to us about the origins of Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) and how this day links to Lent and the important Christian festival of Easter.

On Thursday we had lots of fun on World Book Day. We enjoyed a lovely whole school costume parade and fantastic story telling from Mr Twit and the spider Charlotte (from Charlotte’s Web).

As you may have read in the last Y6 newsletter we have now started our revision programme in preparation for our SATs in May. For those of you who were unable to make the SATs meeting last week I will be able to give you more details about what this programme will include during our pupil progress meetings next week. I will also provide you with a copy of the individual subject timetables (maths, SPaG, Reading and Writing) at our individual meetings.

During our maths lessons this week (and last) we have been revising our understanding of addition & subtraction, place value & number lines, answered real life Problems (using 4 operations) including money and measures. We have also completed a series of quick fire multiplication activities and completed 2 SATs arithmetic papers – Phew!

During our English SPaG sessions we have revised our understanding of Suffixes & prefixes and have completed several SPaG style test written test papers including a series of spelling tests.

Guided reading sessions are now being taught through completing and undertaking old SATs reading papers. We have finished and reviewed 2 papers already -Everyone has tackled these papers with enthusiasm and with a growing confidence – please keep this work up at home by asking your children to still read aloud to you on a regular basis.

Don’t forget Red Nose Day next Friday – With a bonus of a little lie as you don’t need to wear your school uniform. Just roll out of bed and come straight to school in your PJ’s!

Have a super weekend everyone.
