Welcome Back Year 1!

It has been an absolute pleasure to meet your wonderful children this week! I have enjoyed listening to their fabulous stories about their Summer holiday! I am really looking forward to meeting you all next Wednesday at the Class Curriculum Presentation.

The children have settled really well into their new setting and it is has been pleasing to see how hard they have been working. The children are all so enthusiastic and inquisitive.

This week the children have been introduced to our five Golden rules:

  • Do be honest, kind and helpful.
  • Do show respect at all times.
  • Do try your best at all times.
  • Do keep your hands and feet to yourselves.
  • Do be a good listener.

We have been working really hard on our listening skills this week.

The children have been completing phonics, reading, Maths and writing assessments this week. I am so pleased with the effort they have put into these tasks. Next week, we will continue to assess the children so we can send home appropriate levelled reading books and homework/spelling tasks.

We have been learning how to draw a self-portrait in Year 1 this week.  The children have enjoyed experimenting with colour and were very keen to show off their beautiful art work to their friends. We would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Blundell for supporting the children with their art work this week. Next week we will be looking at art work by the artist Andy Warhol.

Year 1 were amazed to find a vegetable growing on our school playground! I will give lots of stickers out to children who can tell me what the vegetable is! Can you tell me one fact about the vegetable?

Today we went on a walk around Grosvenor Park with our friends from Year 5 and completed the ‘Golden Mile’ for our health and well-being.

I have sent out a welcome letter providing information regarding the curriculum, PE, swimming, homework etc. If you have any questions  please do not hesitate to ask.

Sadie “ I love Year 1 because you are able to sit at a table and do lots of work!“.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Year 1 team.
