Warm welcome for new Head of School
New Head of School Jo Price says an ambitious drive to help Grosvenor Park Academy reach its ‘great potential’ is already under way.
The city-centre primary, formerly University Church Free School (UCFS), is now part of the North West Academies Trust (NWAT).
Head of School Jo Price has been appointed to lead an improvement plan alongside Principal Wend Smith.
Mrs Price, who previously worked in NWAT schools as Inclusion Manager, said: “We’ve had a very warm welcome at Grosvenor Park, and I speak for both myself and Wenda when I say we are looking forward to working with the whole school and its community.
“We held an open day earlier this week which was opportunity to share the changes we have already made and discuss planned improvements.
“This is such a lovely school, with great potential and I am very excited for the future.”
Wenda Smith is also Executive Head at St Martin’s Academy, Chester, and has guided it to become the most over-subscribed school in West Cheshire.
She said: “The feedback we had from the open day was all so positive and it has helped confirm to us that our plans are on the right track.
“This is a wonderful school and we are looking forward to helping it become truly remarkable.”
Steve Docking, CEO of NWAT, says the relaunch is a positive move for the school in Union Street.
He said: “We firmly believe that strength and improvement comes from our schools working together, sharing ideas and implementing best practice.
“The success of St Martin’s Academy speaks for itself and we intend to bring everything we’ve learned into action at Grosvenor Park.”
St Martin’s Academy was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted within a year of opening in 2013.
Among the other NWAT schools is Delamere Academy, near Northwich, which is ranked the highest performing primary in West Cheshire according to the latest performance tables.
