Trolls under (and on) the bridge

This week in Year 1…

We have been adding one digit to two digit numbers. We have had a go at using column addition and setting the calculation out in our books. We have used the Numicon to help us create and solve a calculation. We also did some problem solving with addition to really test what we knew!

This week we have been recounting the story of The Three Billy Goats and writing their story in the style of a newspaper. We have recounted the story to each other a few times so that we knew all the details of the story. We then designed our own newspaper, gave it a headline, wrote the story and included a picture. We went to visit Queen’s Park Bridge and retold the story there. We also started designing our own bridge.

We have been learning about the names of body parts. We learned all the parts of the face and some parts of the body. We have learned ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ in French.

We learned about the difference between deciduous and evergreen plants and how to recognise them. We went for a walk around the park and pointed out the different types of trees to our partners.

We have been learning about our city of Chester and some of the things that make Chester famous.

We have been recognising sounds in sentences and trying to use them in our reading.

Next week…

English – Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Maths – Place value

Science – saving the rainforest

French – the weather

Art – bridge building. We will need as much cardboard, plastic etc that you can spare! It can be stored in school. Thanks
