This week in Year 1…

We have been learning our two times tables, counting forwards and backwards in twos and recognising odd and even numbers. We have used a number line and a song to help us learn our two times tables. We have used hundred squares to help us count forwards and backwards in two and also coloured in our odd and even numbers.

This week we have been recounting the story of Little Red Riding Hood and using our descriptive language to describe some of the characters. We have made our own cartoon strip of the storyline, ordered the events of the story and talked about each character.

We began some French this week, learning the names of the colours of the rainbow in French with the help of a song. We coloured in some paint splats and practised the pronunciation of each word.

We learned about the names and functions of some of the parts of a plant. We designed and labelled our own plant using the correct scientific name. We went outside to find some plants and discussed the different parts of the plants.

We have learned about the story of Jonah and the Whale. We discussed the moral behind the story and created our own whale.

We coloured a map of the world to show the continents. We discussed the difference between a country and a continent and tried to find some of the places where we have been or our family live.

We have played hunting games based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The aim of the game was to encourage quick reactions and speed of mind in a pressure situation.

We have worked on our basic sounds and reemphasised the use of Fred talk for new words. We have practised all of our split digraphs and beginning to use them in our reading work.
