The Lost Wolf
We have had a fantastic week of learning in year 1.
On Monday we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon creating art work linked to our new topic ‘Woodland’. The children worked individually then as a class to produce some fabulous images of tree houses. During the art session the children were asking lots of interesting questions and these will be typed up and displayed in the classroom. Over the next few weeks we will be doing some investigating to discover the answers to these questions.
In Forest school we started a half-term long project which will include creating a photo frame using natural materials. This will help develop fine motor skills. The children enjoyed a walk around the park collecting a variety of resources to prepare for next week’s lesson when they will start to make their photo frame.
The children found a ‘Wanted ‘ poster in our classroom this week. A fox has gone missing and if we see it we must tell Little Red! Year 1 have been writing descriptions, instructions and sentences including conjunctions and noun phrases. We are working very hard to sit our letters on the lines and use finger spaces.
In Maths we have been developing our addition and subtraction to 20 skills. The children have answered and created word problems, used number tracks and lines, and have impressed me with their independent Maths work this week.
We have been working extremely hard with our phonics! We have worked through more Phonics screening tests and next week we will practise the sounds we are finding a bit tricky. (a-e, i-e, igh, u-e). For homework over the next few weeks we would like you to practise reading real and alien words. Please see homework folders.
In RE we have been talking about Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent. The children loved eating pancakes in class on Tuesday and they wrote a description of their favourite pancake. A favourite seems to be sticky toffee sauce with beautiful bananas and gooey, silky chocolate with smooth, delicious ice-cream! We have also created some beautiful art work and writing linked to the parable of the Good Samaritan.
Have a peaceful weekend.
