The Chocolate Planet

We have had a very short but busy and productive week! The children enjoyed telling me all about their exciting long weekend. The children produced some wonderful, descriptive work including lots of adjectives and similes linked to their weekend activities.

We have started reading ‘Chocolate Planet’ and the children have been answering some tricky questions linked to the text testing their inference and deduction skills. We have been practising our tenses this week. The children have worked in pairs to sort verbs into the past and present tense. Year 2 have also been thinking of synonyms for a variety of words. We are trying hard to improve our vocabulary choices when writing. The children have completed SPaG activities, a reading comprehension based on Fairtrade and a weekly handwriting task.

In Maths we have focused our attention on position and direction, multiplication and division and place value. The children have enjoyed their daily morning Maths challenge and some children have actually said they are looking forward to taking their Maths SATs tests!

Jasper “I find some Maths questions easy but some challenging. I find the multiplication questions easy. I know that 12 x 12 =144!”

In topic we have looked at the history of chocolate and the children magic have produced timelines. Next week we would like to make ancient Maya hot chocolate. Please look out for the message on eeztrip.

In Music we have been practising another song for our summer show. The song is from the musical Les Miserables and is called Castle on a cloud. Emily R  “It is an emotional, interesting and beautiful song”.

Next week is Mock SATs week. The children will be taking tests each morning but afternoon sessions will remain the same. Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school each day as PE sessions can change.
