Remember, Remember the 5th of November
Year 1 have enjoyed another fantastic week of learning. The children have all worked incredibly hard this week and deserve praise for the effort they are putting into their daily tasks. They really are an absolute pleasure to teach.
A highlight this week for year 1 was starting football training in PE with Miss Valentine . The children had lots of fun whilst developing their dribbling and passing skills. Miss Valentine was extremely impressed with the year 1 children’s behaviour and attitude towards learning.
Another highlight this week was when the children learned about why we celebrate Bonfire night. We watched a spectacular firework display which inspired the children to produce some wonderful, creative writing. I was impressed with the children’s vocabulary choices!
In Literacy we have been looking at different types of sentences. This week we focused on writing questions and exploring synonyms. We also wrote a poem about planes. The children used with some super words in their writing: soaring, dived, floated, zoomed, fluttered.
We have been reading and writing words containing the ‘aw’ sound -remember ‘yawn at dawn’. Homework will provide further practise using this sound.
In Maths we have had so much fun using lots of resources to help us with our adding. We have used ten frames, number tracks, whole-part models and double-sided counters to help us find number bonds to a given number. The children were very pleased to find patterns when they worked in a systematic way Again, homework will provide further work on this.
In Science we have started our new topic ‘Materials’ and have enjoyed searching for objects made out of wood, plastic, metal and glass. Next week we will start to look at the properties of these materials.
In Context for learning sessions Year 1 have produced a KW grid to show what they know and what they want to know about transport. We are all very excited about our new topic!
I look forward to seeing you all on Monday to start another fun week of learning!
Have a wonderful weekend!
