Reception and their fantastic buddies!

Another super busy week in Reception has whizzed by and we are now only a week away from half-term! Time really does fly when you’re having fun!

This week we have started to practice our class assembly ready for Tuesday. It is based on our key text of this half-term ‘Giraffes can’t dance’ as the children have all really loved exploring this fantastic story. All I’m going to reveal is that there has been some fantastic dancing in Reception this week! Our assembly is on Tuesday 21st May at 9:15am in the school hall. Please join us if you can.

On Wednesday afternoon the children loved their ‘Wednesday walk’ with Year 6. After a few weeks of miserable weather we had glorious sunshine that allowed us to visit the playground too. A real treat! It is wonderful to see how amazing our Year 6 children are with the littlest members of our school community. As we walk around the park, the children from both classes ask each other questions and discuss what they can see in the park. As a treat Miss Corbett had bought some ice pops for everyone to have after the walk, but unfortunately they hadn’t frozen as quickly as planned so were enjoyed on Thursday instead! A huge congratulations to our Wonderful Year 6 children from everybody in Reception. You have handled a stressful week very maturely and we are all very proud of our buddies!

In Maths, this week we have been exploring flat (2d) and solid (3d) shapes. Some of the activities the children have taken part in are grouping shapes according to their properties, shape hunts in the classroom, making shape pizzas and played shape bingo. I think shape bingo had to be the favourite!

This week we have celebrated Mental Health Week by doing some yoga, thinking about our feelings and talking about people who help us. We all agreed that it’s really important to get a good nights sleep, drink lots of water, go swimming (exercise) and spend time with our family and friends. All these things combined will help us to be happy and feel safe.

This week the children have a shape based homework activity. The comments that you make in their homework book are really helpful. Thank you, your support is greatly appreciated.

A special mention to the 6 children who went to their first football tournament. They all played really well, WON some games, showed great sportsmanship and certainly looked the part in the school kit. Thank you Mr Lee for organising it for us.

As we have been experiencing such beautiful weather, please ensure that you apply sun cream to your child before they come to school and that they bring in a named sun hat, as they can spend quite a large part of the day in the outside area. Also, please can you make sure you have labelled ALL your child’s clothing as the children often take their jumper or cardigan off now the weather is warmer. We have a large pile of unnamed uniform in the classroom if anyone would like to have a look for a missing item of clothing. Thank you.

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
