During our science lessons Year 6 have been studying micro-organisms. We researched the different types of microbes – those that are helpful to us and those that are unhelpful. We looked at the characteristics of each type of microbe and used those characteristics to create our own bacteria, virus or fungi out of modelling clay (don’t worry each model is quite safe and not contagious!)
During our Maths lessons this week our focus has been on multiples factors and prime numbers.
During our English sessions this week we have spent writing setting descriptions based on this term’s text ‘Hansel & Gretel’.
Air raid shelters
Thank you so much for the effort you put into supporting your children with their design and technology homework. Their air raid shelter are FANTASTIC… This week we have started to evaluate our models – unfortunately time got away from us so we had to postpone the physical testing until next week. But from what I can see I think that each model will pass the height, weight and waterproof tests easily. (fingers crossed)
Miss Owens has set the homework this week her focus is based on the science and maths work we having been doing in class this week. She has set a science/design homework asking the children to produce a microbes information poster – and her maths homework is a follow up to our work on multiples, factors and prime numbers – I think she has added a curve ball in there somewhere so look out for that.
Please note a couple of things sent home recently and a date for your diary. Sponsor forms for the Santa Dash were sent home this week details for this event should have been sent from the PTFA already – Flu Vaccination forms were also sent out this week and should be returned to school if you want your child to have the vaccination. Year 5/6 have a school trip planned for the Friday 29th November to the Imperial War Museum of the North – packed lunch required – it will be swimming as normal on that day.
On a personal note thank you so much for coming to parents evening it was so lovely to spend time getting to know you all a little better and of course talking about your lovely children –
Have a really lovely weekend
