Making Waves

This week in Year 1…

We have been finding the bigger number by adding and subtracting. We have been using the resources in our class to help us count, add and take away.

This week we have been creating a space/mountain/sea explorer using our describing language. We decided that they would be brave, intelligent, sensible and prepared. We are going to use our character in a story in the coming weeks

We have been learning about objects that sink and float. We made predictions about whether an object would sink or float and the reasons why that object would do that.

We have been working really hard in phonics this week. We have been finding alien words, monster words, nonsense words and even some real words. We did a practice phonics test too and we all did very well!

This week we were lucky enough to be able to use St. Martin’s Academy’s hall for our lesson. We played some catching and throwing games, the animal game (ask your children, it’s hilarious!) and some speed games.

We planned and painted a picture of the waves using water colour paints. We were inspired the artist Hokusai and his paintings of nature. There are definitely some budding artists in Year 1!

Next week…

Next week were travelling to space! We will be learning all about the planets and stars.
