i-e ‘nice smile’

Year 1 have shown me their ‘nice smiles’ this week as we have learnt another sound ‘i-e’, nice smile. Please practise this sound with your children at home. We are thrilled with the progress the children are making with their phonics and reading. Homework and spellings this week are linked to the ‘i-e’ sound.

In Literacy, the children have been ‘diving’ into pictures and using drama and their imagination to show what they can see, hear, touch and smell. I have been really impressed with the children’s efforts with their writing as always. We are becoming experts at checking our work for errors and using our purple polishing pens to make improvements to our work.

In Maths we have been introduced to Charlie the  Crocodile who likes to eat large numbers! The children have been using ‘more than’ and ‘less than’ symbols to write number sentences. We have also been counting in 2s and have completed an end of term assessment…I am pleased to see the children making lots of progress!

In topic we have been looking closely at a map of The United Kingdom. The children have located and labelled Chester on a map and know that the United Kingdom is split into four areas. We even managed to locate where The Beatles performed in the 1960s…Liverpool. The children are now very excited about visiting Liverpool after half-term.

We have continued to tie-dye out T-shirts, make musical instruments and have also spent some time writing a description of  how The Yellow Submarine song makes them feel.

Sadie “The music makes me feel relaxed and it makes me feel like a star!”

Ethan “The music makes me feel joyful”.

Hanna “The music makes me feel as happy as a butterfly flying in the sky”.

Raef “The music makes feel as happy as the sun”.

Anyah “The music is loud and it makes me feel like I want to dance”.

In Music we have continued to improve our Harvest song. Please keep practising at home!

In RE we have been creating images and writing a class poem linked to The Parable of the Two Builders. We have been thinking very carefully about the message in this parable. Children described God as their rock.

Have a lovely weekend!

The Year 1 team.
