God loves us all just the same.

This week we have been preparing for our class assembly which is all about celebrating differences. The children have enjoyed reciting poems linked to this theme and learning the song ’Just the Same’. We can’t wait to perform it to you.  The children also decided that the song ‘This is me ‘ from The Greatest showman links really well to the theme so would like to sing it during our assembly.

Lexie “I like the song ‘Just the same’ because it teaches younger children that we are all not the same and life is not boring”.

In Literacy, we have been writing in the past tense and using expanded noun phrases. We have been writing character descriptions of Willy Wonka using thesauruses and dictionaries to help us make our writing more accurate and adventurous. In Maths we have been completing some fun, problem solving activities in our Abacus workbooks.

In Music we have been singing Consider Yourself from the musical Oliver! The children have been practising how to sing in a cockney accent! Please work on this at home. We have had so much fun adding movements to the song this week. We really do have some talented performers in Year 2!

JosephThe song Consider Yourself is lively! When I sing it, it makes me feel old because the song is old!”

Cerys “I love Consider Yourself because my family is from London and it is a very energetic song”.

Year 2 enjoyed collective Worship this week. The Open Book assembly team visited us this week and performed love a story about how we can do anything we want if we put our minds to it.

Homework this week is to write a character description. Don’t forget to use adjectives, similes and expanded noun phrases. Think about synonyms for the different words you can see on you worksheet.

Next week we will be involved in a whole school history project. Year 2 will be focusing on the war years. We have lots of exciting activities planned including an evacuation to Grosvenor museum. If possible, we would like the children to come to school wearing 1940s costumes next Friday. Thank you.

Well done to everybody who found last week’s secret word. Who can find the secret word this week?

Have a lovely weekend!
