Year 6

Fun in the rain during our first Forest Schools session with Mr Holland!

This week in Year 6…

It is great to be back after our adventures at Min-y-Don Christian Adventure Centre and our well-earned half term holiday. On Monday the children found out what their end of term production will be – Billy Elliot – Auditions were held on Thursday for a variety of roles – they have made the job of casting individual roles very difficult as everyone was amazing! – Cast list will be shared with everyone next Monday. On Tuesday we had our first Forest School session with Mr Holland unfortunately the weather was not very kind as it rain (quite heavily) from start to finish but that did not prevent the children from throwing themselves into every activity with enthusiasm.  Back in the classroom we continued producing quality pieces of writing for our writing portfolios. Our focus at the moment is to write a persuasive a radio advert. We have finished our initial draft and are busy improving these drafts before our producing a published piece. It was great to get back to our swimming lessons (always a highlight of the week) On Wednesday we enjoyed joining our friends from reception for a ‘Big Read’ as we could not go for our golden mile walk as it was so wet! On Friday 6 members of the class visited the King’s School for a science day where they got to set things on fire! All in the name of science of course.

Next week we will be joining our friends in Y1&2 to complete a mini history project linked to the history of our school building – Y1 2 & 6 will be focusing on the history of the school building during the Second World War. As part of this project we would like all three year groups to dress in period costumes on Friday (14th June) as we are planning to evacuate them all to a billeting office in the Grosvenor Museum – where they will take part in some workshops linked to this period of history. We will send more details of the day next week.

HOMEWORK:

As we had several children out on Friday homework will now go out on Monday – it will be due in on Friday. Part of this homework is linked to sourcing a period costume for Friday – researching the cost of living during the war years including pre decimalisation currency. Also learning their parts for Billy Elliot will be an ongoing homework activity.  Please can you make sure that your children share their homework with you before they bring it back on Friday next week?

Have a lovely weekend.
