A very short but busy week for Year 1!
This week we have been reading in small groups and as a whole class. I have been really impressed with their decoding. The children have enjoyed discussing the books with their teachers and have been able to answer simple questions relating to the text.
We have focused on the sound ‘ay’ and this week’s homework will provide extra practise with this. In handwriting we have been practising to form the ‘g’,’p’,’f’ and ‘s’ sound .
Year 1 have been developing their vocabulary even further this week. I have been amazed by their sentence work. I have see words such as ‘drifted’, ‘fragrance’, ‘crunched’, and ‘lurked’ been used!
On Wednesday we enjoyed a drama lesson where we acted out words and phrases from Where The Wild Things Are. We have some talented children in year 1!
In Maths we have been counting across 100 beginning with any number, identifying and representing numbers using objects and pictures. The children have enjoyed some practical Maths games and challenges. It was lovely to see the children work so well with a partner.
In Topic we have looked closely at patterns in Andy Warhol’s art work and have started to collect resources to make our musical instrument. The children have been adding detail to their designs. They have presented their designs to the class and are really excited to make their musical instruments next week!
Next week we will be preparing some art work which will be displayed in the Town Hall for the 150th anniversary.
In RE we have been creating headlines and images to show what God looks like. This work will be developed further next week which will be used to enter a competition.
On Wednesday we enjoyed a walk in the park with our Year 5 friends. We noticed some children didn’t have coats for this activity. Please could all children bring their coat to school every day now the weather is becoming colder.
In Music we have been adding movements to our Harvest songs…the children are really excited about performing it to you all at church.
This half-term we would like the children to have a 60’s hair style! One of our Year 2 parents has kindly offered to come into class and style your children’s hair. Please let me know asap if you do not wish for your child’s hair to be styled.
Homework and spelling is due on Wednesday.
Have a brilliant weekend!
