Back in time!
Year 1 have had a wonderful week!
On Monday the children wrote some sentences about their weekend and enjoyed reading their work out in front of the class. I was pleased to see them using adjectives to describe.
Harry wrote ‘I went to a cafe on Saturday and had delicious food”.
In English we have been learning about verbs and suffixes. The children are able to write a sentence including a verb and suffix e.g gnashing, singing. I was very impressed as they all remembered to use a capital letter at the start of their sentences!
In phonics we have been concentrating on the sounds ‘sh’ and ‘ch’. The children are becoming more confident with blending sounds together to make words.
In handwriting we have been practising our letter formation. We need to work harder on on our ‘g’ , ‘s’ and ‘h’ formation. Please practise these at home.
In Maths the children have enjoyed lots of practical activities where they were able to work with a partner to count, read and write numerals to 100. We are becoming really confident with our number formation …forming number 7 needs a little more work!
On Thursday we had a special visitor in school…Rector Chesters! The children had a lovely time discussing the 1960s with him and were amazed by his artefacts. They enjoyed singing and dancing along to some of his favourite 1960s tunes! Rector Chesters was very pleased with the children’s enthusiasm and sensible questions. Next week in topic we are beginning to tie-dye T-shirts so please could we have T-shirts in by next Wednesday. Thank you so much.
In Science we have continued looking at materials and the children enjoyed testing which materials can float or sink.
In swimming the children are developing their water confidence skills. McKayla “I like jumping in the pool and kicking my legs under water”.
In Music we have started to learn a Harvest song in preparation for our Harvest service. We look forward to singing it for you. We have sent the lyrics home for you to practise at home.
In RE we have been looking at newspaper report headlines and thinking about how God shares good news. The children created Good News headlines e.g. ‘He has Risen!
Reminder -Monday is INSET day.
Have a peaceful weekend.
