A reflective week for year 5!

This week we have been using the features of an explanation text in our own explanation for a machine to make a healthy meal for Tim Peake. We have drawn the machine and thought about how it works, what it would look like and what sound effects it might make.

During science this week we have tasted dehydrated astronaut space food.

We have been busy with our mental maths activities in the morning, during lessons we have explored fractions of numbers. We have used short division in real life problems.

St Johns

We have visited St Johns three times this week, Rev Chester’s welcomed us on Tuesday and explained the importance of Shrove Tuesday. He talked about the day of celebration as well as penitence, because it’s the last day before Lent. Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren’t allowed in Lent. The children were given pancakes and discussed what they would give up for Lent.

We attended the Ash Wednesday eucharist service. This is to mark the first day of Lent – a 40-day period of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. The children were blessed during communion and had a ash cross marked on their foreheads.

On Friday we returned to church where we considered forgiveness, I spoke about seeking forgiveness starts with the word sorry, we also gave a Star of the Week certificates.

World Book Day
We finished the week with World Book Day where the children attended school as their favourite character from a book. We celebrated by writing our own stories.

Have a lovely weekend
