A busy week in Reception
Take a look at our busy week in Reception…
On Monday we started our week looking at subtracting. The children used number lines and small objects to practice taking away.
Where are you going Little Red Riding Hood? On Tuesday, the children learnt all about asking questions. They took turns to be Little Red Riding Hood and answer questions in role. In Forest School, the children used a saw to cut rounds of wood ready to make The Gruffalo characters next week.
On Wednesday morning, we were very lucky to have a visit from the author of ‘Little Red’ Bethan Woollvin. She talked to us about her inspiration for writing and illustrating books, taught us how to draw Hansel and Gretel and answered our questions. After a short break, we loved making some of the 3D characters from Bethan’s books.
On Wednesday afternoon, we enjoyed a wonderful, sunny walk with the rest of the school and 3 police officers. The main aim of the walk was to look at road safety. All the children walked very sensibly on the pavement, held hands with their buddy and stopped, looked and listened when crossing the roads. We were all very proud of the children as they all enjoyed summer sunshine and we didn’t hear ‘are we back at school yet?’ once!
On Thursday, the children enjoyed listening to the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ as part of our seaside topic. Afterwards, the children were set the challenge of making a basket that would travel from Mr and Mrs Grinling’s cottage to the lighthouse. They tested it out using the role play lighthouse and rope that we set up. The children planned, made and changed their designs if any problems arose. Inside the classroom, the children drew some fantastic pictures of lighthouses and thought about their favourite lunch.
On Friday, the children enjoyed an outdoor P.E. lesson. They worked in teams to race with a quoit, bounce a ball and tag the next person in their team. We are looking forward to Sports Day next week!
Homework this week is a road safety walk checklist.
We hope you have a wonderfully sunny weekend.
