We ❤️ London!

What an amazing time we had in London. After an early 7am meet at Chester Train Station, tired eyes quickly turned into smiles and excited voices as we found our platform and boarded our train to London Euston. A spot of breakfast and numerous board games later, we arrived and began to navigate our way across the capital on the Tube towards Westminster. With a slightly warmer day, we were able to thoroughly enjoy the short walk to the Houses of Parliament and even had the chance to talk with some kind and smiley police officers near to New Scotland Yard. Touring Westminster Palace came next, which was simply breathtaking. Not only did we discover a huge amount about the history of democracy in the UK, but we were also treated to a guided tour of the House of Lords, a look through the door into a live debate in the House of Commons and, finally, a meet and greet with our very own MP for Chester City, Chris Matheson. Despite his busy schedule, Chris took the time to carefully answer our many questions and also provide further insights into the history of the Palace, including the fact that the building contains over 1,100 rooms, 100 staircases and 3 miles of passageways. Shortly after the tour, we ate a scrumptious lunch before boarding a busy ferry to explore even more of our nation’s capital. Not sure about which iconic skyscraper along the River Thames is which? Then do feel free to ask us in school all about the most famous ones, including The Gherkin, The Walkie-Talkie and The Cheesegrater! Stopping for souvenirs once the cruise was over was a long-awaited highlight for many of our group, which was then followed by our return Tube expedition back across the city to Euston for supper. Our homeward-bound train was just as much fun as the first, even though the journey was extended for almost two hours. Luckily, we had lots to do and chat about inside the coach and so the extra time we were faced with passed extremely quickly. A round of cheerful – albeit relieved – applause greeted us back in Chester as we stepped onto home soil once more. It really was no surprise that the next day in school we all wholeheartedly agreed: We…love…you…London!
