Busy week for Year 4…
This week we have learnt all about the Roman numerals system for writing numbers that uses the following letters and their values: I = 1, V = 5, X = 10, L = 50, C = 100, D = 500, M = 1,000. To read the numerals, we have an addition rule and a subtraction rule. We have sang a song, played bingo created an acrostic poem and recorded work in our books, and it’s been a fun and active week.
This week we have used fronted adverbials to create sentences using the key vocabulary. We have identified phrases within the text and worked in groups to show understanding. We have looked at the book, ‘The Whale’, and the children were amazed to discover the limited vocabulary, using illustrations to tell the story. This captured the children’s interest, asking such questions as ‘how have we learnt so much new vocabulary’. As the focus moves towards the writing element I would expect the children to be using the new vocabulary at home.
We have completed our golden mile with Year 2, we were very fortunate to have chosen a beautiful day and it was a pleasure to hear the year 4 children chatting to their partners in year 2.
During RE we have been looking at the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. The children then thought about when they had shared something.
We had a lovely visit to St Johns church this week where Rev Chester spoke to the children about the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32).
Spellings this week – Week 3
Hope you all have a lovely weekend
